2026 Retirement Plan Limits

An update on workplace retirement plans, with older man reading on a boat

The IRS has released 2026 cost-of-living adjustments for workplace plans. Key updates include a $24,500 deferral limit, $8,000 age-50 catch-up, an additional $11,250 catch-up for ages 60–63, a $72,000 annual additions cap, and a $360,000 compensation limit. Higher-earner note: if an employee earned $150,000+ in 2025 with your company, any 2026 catch-up must be Roth (plan permitting).

Ascension’s 401(k) team can help you implement the changes, update materials, and communicate with participants.
